I just bought my first bike - Ninja 250 - after passing the MSF class. Does anyone have recommendations on which insurance company has the best policies in CA?

Re: Insurance
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 1:55 PMYes, me and all my riding buddies are using bike-line insurance -- bike-line.com or markel insurance. they had the best prices (last time i looked), even better than combining with my car and home-owners insurance.
congratulations on getting your first bike.

Re: Insurance
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 5:46 PMWhen I lived in the Bay Area, I got the best policy (price/service combination) from Farmers. In my experience, Farmers works better for women riders than men (my then-BF was better off with State Farm, but either of us switching would have been a poor idea money-wise). I found both to be good companies to work with.
Farmers in Washington won't insure me unless I go through Foremost, which is super expensive. I got the best quote from Bikeline and fortunately haven't had to find out what their service is like (but I've heard good things).
Don't forget your un(der)insured motorist insurance. It's the priciest part, but also often the most important. -

Re: Insurance
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 10:31 PMI have farmers for my car and home in the bay area, but they were still more expensive than bikeline even with a combined discount.... but, they had better prices than other places i compared bikeline too, came in second.
a little comparison shopping couldn't hurt.

Re: Insurance
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 5:39 PMThanks for the tip, everyone. I'm new to all this so I hadn't heard of bikeline. I ended up getting it because the coverage was comparable to other insurers that were charging up to double the amount. Now I hope I'll also never find out just how good their customer service is =)

Re: Insurance
Mon, April 7, 2008 - 11:59 AMAlthough you already decided on your insurance just wanted to share that we started with Geico because our scooter was our only mode of transportation and Geico was the only company that I could find at the time that offered insurance for a bike without needing a car covered as well (so strange that it's an issue!). Sadly, we've already used their services after a drug deal gone bad ended up with a long row of bikes/scooters getting knocked over (end of the row was a car) and each bike was badly damaged. We got the claim cleared up within 2 weeks and our biggest hold up was the body shop. We got our scooter back good as new!
