    Again with that Michelin shite?!
That was at a low speed, noticed the flapping arms? Think of how your body will react at a decent speed...

Slide, baby... don't bounce. That guy nearly put his hand down, and then changed his mind.

yeah, i'll bet that guy wound up with some bruises on his hips.

it seemed a little bit staged... too much so. it appeared he was sliding, then he pushed himself into a roll.

I did see a news story though, about what was the first know crash of a guy on a bike wearing an airbag coat, and he survived well considering the reported speed and impact. his coat looked like it inflated all the way down his arms too...

I found a link to the web site of the manufacturer. They cited the case of a guy who changed lanes as a car moved over in front of him and put on the brakes. He hit the car and was thrown. According to the story, his speed at impact was 140 mph, which would mean that he had to be doing either 150+ at the moment he left the bike, or he hit something moving toward him at a high rate of speed. I can't seem to find the link again, but I thought the story said that he hit the pavement, which makes the entire story questionable to me.

It is known that standard armor will not protect you from impact. It is designed to slide. It is also known that an air cushion will provide some protection from impact, certainly better than armor does. It seems to me that the best system would be a combo of the two, which allowed you to slide without bouncing or rolling, yet provided some decent protection against the forces of impact in case you hit something.
