Do the ladies in here have any suggestions?
I don't feel so good about giving my girlfriend a ride on my bike knowing she's wearing boots that are really thin and don't cover her ankles.
Planning on checking out the store 'Road Rider', would appreciate suggestions. Thanks.

Re: Motorcycle boots for women
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 1:26 PMYou should have her go to ridegear.com and see what the average women's boot looks like so she knows what to get. On my husband's website www.thedynamiccycles.com he has a link direct to them! Hope it helps, if not go to your local gear shop they might have a good boot there! Good Luck! -

Re: Motorcycle boots for women
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 4:04 PMWhat size does she wear in women's? Men's boots are about 2 numbers below. I wear a 9.5 or 10 in women's boots, an 8 in mens. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my red wing boots. Steel toe, plenty of thick platform, and 2 inch heel. Buy bike boots late in the day, when your feet are largest, and allow room for thick socks and a layer or two of insoles.....or you'll be sorry. -

Thu, March 27, 2008 - 7:42 AMThanks for the input!
I went to the redwing site and found some nice womens boots. i'll check ridergear too.
I like Leatherup.com but it's really hard to buy stuff on-line that you want to fit perfectly... like boots.
oh, she told me last night she wants cowboy boots....

Re: Motorcycle boots for women
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 10:27 PMYou two could both check online what boots are available.
It really boils down to whether she is planning to ride her own bike, where she is riding the bike, and what features she wants. She can get boots that give decent ankle and calf protection, that provide enough insulation from both rain and cold, that lift her up an extra inch, that are all leather or part leather, with zippers and velcro or with buckles and velcro or all velcro. And she needs to try them on. I've found that men's boots are sized 1.5 sizes larger than women's sizes and they're also roomier in the box/ball of the foot area. If she's like most women, her heels are narrow so she'll want the boot that won't give her heel blisters if she has to walk in them. And Euro sizes definitely need to be fitted before buying, esp. if she is a half size.
I have four moto boots -- 2 casual, 1 for all-weather, and 1 for dirt/supermoto. The last two will protect my ankles and calves more than the first two, but they were also stiff when new. -

Re: Motorcycle boots for women
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 12:56 PMI have cowboy boots, but they're really not great for riding, unless you get lug/oil resistant soles and heels put on them. If you put your foot down on a oily street in leather soled boots, you're gonna slide painfully and fall.
And one of the most retarded things I ever see is some frakin' poseur with a bandage on the toe of his fancy ostrich boots so they won't get scuffed on the shifter. It never occurs to any of them to either clean the damn peg or wrap it instead of their boots. Or that a scuffed boot means they actually ride. -

Re: Motorcycle boots for women
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 2:47 PMyeah, I think she likes the cowboy boots i use for riding. they are stingray, and they are indestructable! if I get into a horrible crash, you'll be able to pull my feet out of the boots -- still in one piece. lol.
but, the stringray boots are expensive.
as of now, she doesn't plan to pilot a bike, just ride as a passenger. i told her about the redwing boots you suggested. -

Re: Motorcycle boots for women
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 7:10 PMI wore a pair of Frye Harness boots that I got used off of eBay. They're great boots with Vibram soles, I think. But after a while I realized that they probably wouldn't protect my ankles much. And then during winter riding, I found that having a Goretex/Cambrelle lining inside the boot really helps to keep the feet warm and dry.
And those Stingray boots sure look nice. Custom-made to fit your feet -- can't beat that.

Thu, March 27, 2008 - 7:19 PMinsoles, heel cushions, arch supports, taps. . .I modify my boots as matter-of-factly as I modify my bike. Function, fit, then form.
