motorcycle schools

Okay, I'm going to take the leap and learn how to ride... Can anyone suggest a good (or warn me of a bad) motorcycle training school in the Bay area?

just about any of the MSF approved courses in California will be pretty close in quality. Pick one based on convenience of schedule, and do it. You'll get the practical test waived at the DMV, and have to take a written.

Once that's done, if you want to continually work on being a better rider, there are free riding clinics given in redwood city by Doc Wong, superbike schools for track enthusiasts, a cruiser course offered by streetmasters down near Barstow, and a good series of classes for civilians offered by the alameda county sherriff's office. Google is your friend.

Not in the bay area, but perhaps of interest to some. The Marine Corps offers the MSF advanced rider training course to Marines weekly at most of the larger bases. Commanding officers are required to give leave for the course without docking accrued leave time.

Just an FYI for anyone whom this might apply to.

        I used this school 3 1/2 years ago when I learned: www.motorcycleschool.com/sanfr...x.html

I thought that the instructors were somewhat condescending (sorry, but its my honest opinion) but that the classes were good and their punctuality was helpful as it kept the classes rolling and ontime.

Here's another thought. Take the MSF dirt course first, then buy a dirtbike (or ride with friends who have dirtbikes). I can't tell you the number of times that my dirt skills & experience have saved my butt on the street. On the dirt you get to learn the physics, and functions of riding a motorcycle along with being able to have controlled "crashes" all the while avoiding people in cages trying to kill you. Once you've got your dirt riding skills dialed in, take the MSF street course.

          Just a thought.

I'm an instructor for the MSF dirt course... They call it the Off Highway Motorcycle course. it's good course for someone who's never been on a dirt bike before, but not so good for someone who has done some riding on dirt bikes....

That was the one I've been look'in at. Thanks! :) I think I'll go with the course at college of Alameda. They are somewhat cheaper...
